Philosophy of care
Good psychiatric care begins with understanding you as a whole person. When I meet you for the first time, I will take time to understand you, your history, and any diagnoses you may already have. We will also discuss your goals and what you hope to achieve from working with me. You and I will design your treatment plan based on all the information available to us. As time progresses, we will learn more about you and your needs, and we will tailor and modify your treatment plan to change with you.
Although my approach is grounded in neuroscience and modern psychiatry, it has also been deeply influenced by years of meditation, mindful living, dream analysis, and the study of thinkers such as Carl Jung and Clarissa Pinkola Estés. These different ways of understanding the mind have taught me to remain curious about what lies beneath a symptom rather than simply trying to make it disappear.
Treatment grows out of that understanding. Sometimes medication is helpful. Sometimes the brain itself can be encouraged to change through treatments such as ExoMind TMS. Psychotherapy, mindfulness, lifestyle changes, or simply learning to relate differently to what we are experiencing may also become part of the work. There is no single path that is right for everyone.
I believe mental health exists on a continuum. My role is not only to help when something has gone wrong, but also to help people understand themselves more deeply and move toward greater health and well-being.
Personal Background
My path to psychiatry has been unique. I began in computer science and mathematics, later studied physiology and molecular genetics, and worked in the technology industry before becoming a physician. I love science, but I am ultimately much more interested in the psyche. Psychiatry gives me the time and space to understand not only what someone is experiencing, but also how they have come to experience the world as they do.
Born in the Middle East and raised in California, I learned early that the same experience can be understood very differently depending on our external environment as well as our inner workings. That perspective has stayed with me throughout my life and my work.
Outside of traditional medical training, I have spent years studying depth psychology and exploring different ways of understanding the human experience. The works of Carl Jung, Eckhart Tolle, and Clarissa Pinkola Estés have been particularly meaningful to me. These influences have expanded the way I think about what it means to be human. Combined with evidence-based medicine, they allow me to offer a depth and breadth of psychiatric care that is unique to my practice.
Integrative & Interventional Psychiatry
I treat a wide range of psychiatric concerns, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, trauma, mood disorders, and the mental health changes that can accompany hormonal transitions. I also work with people who are functioning well but want to feel better, understand themselves more deeply, or improve how they function in their daily lives.
My approach draws from traditional psychiatric treatment as well as newer brain-based interventions. Depending on what makes sense for you, your treatment may include medication, psychotherapy, ExoMind TMS, Spravato, digital therapeutics, or other approaches that support your mental health and overall well-being.
I look forward to getting to know you and working together to help you achieve the goals that matter most to you.
